Overnight, years of shame and regret over my past dissolved — never happened before

I have been filled with regret and shame over situations in my past that I often wish I could go back and make right. At some point a question popped into my head out of nowhere: "why?" As if to say, what is the point — just let it go. I cannot recall ever feeling that way before about anything, especially something related to my past. It definitely feels like growth in a direction I have never allowed myself to go in.
